Geneva, Switzerland | 14 October 2024

On Monday, 14 October 2024, the Global Alliance to End Statelessness was officially launched during the High-Level Segment (HLS) on Statelessness at the 75th Session of the UNHCR Executive Committee (ExCom) in Geneva.
The Global Alliance is a groundbreaking multistakeholder initiative that brings together stateless-led organisations, NGOs, faith-based groups, academia, states, UN agencies, and regional and intergovernmental organisations to work collectively towards ending statelessness worldwide. Originally conceived by UNHCR, this platform builds on the momentum of the 10-year #IBelong Campaign, which concludes in 2024, and represents the most significant global convening on statelessness since 2019.
The High-Level Segment provided a critical moment to reaffirm global commitment to the right to nationality without discrimination. It underscored the importance of collaboration between states and civil society, and the meaningful participation of stateless-led organisations, as essential drivers for accountability, visibility, and sustainable solutions.
SDCC-AP participated in the High-Level Segment, standing alongside partners and allies at the launch of the Global Alliance. Our involvement reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that the voices and experiences of stateless persons in the Asia Pacific region are central to global efforts to eradicate statelessness.
✨ The launch of the Global Alliance marks a pivotal step forward in the collective movement towards a world where everyone enjoys the right to nationality and citizenship with dignity.
