Kuala Lumpur, November 11-15, 2024
Last month, SDCC-AP co-organized the Peer Learning Exchange on Community Paralegals and Citizenship Rights in Kuala Lumpur, together with Namati, the Grassroots Justice Network, and Nationality for All (NFA).
This exchange created a vital platform for participants from across the region to share experiences and strategies on citizenship and paralegal programming. Together, we explored the A–Z of designing and implementing paralegal initiatives, highlighting their role in securing data, bridging communities and justice systems, and driving systemic change.
As part of the exchange, participants also joined site visits to Malaysian organizations advancing legal empowerment. We are deeply grateful to Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Manusia (SUHAKAM), Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, Yayasan Chow Kit, Parastoo Theatre, and Asylum Access Malaysia for hosting us and sharing their powerful work on legal identity and citizenship rights. These visits showcased the real-life impact of paralegal initiatives and inspired participants with practical lessons on addressing statelessness and strengthening justice at the community level.
This exchange reminded us of the power of communities to create meaningful change and the importance of solidarity in our collective work. 🌏✨
